"The Seven Deadly Sins Of Muscle Building: Avoid At All Costs!"

There's so much advice about what to do to and how to do it regarding muscle building, however there's much out there telling you what not to do. You might think that they are all obvious, yes they maybe but are you doing any of the following? Come on be honest?

Binge drinking. Of course we all know this is bad for your liver but did you know that getting drunk causes your body to use it's own muscles as a source of energy whilst drunk. This is due to the horrific amount of sugar in many alcoholic beverages. Avoid at all costs unless you want to lose the muscle you've worked hard for.

Overtraining. Working out too much and too often is more than likely going to do you more harm than good. In fact overtraining can lower your immune system causing you to get ill and therefore missing training sessions in the future. Always allow 72 hours before hitting a muscle group again and definetely no 2 hour sessions that use up all the energy stored in your liver, this will make recovery and growth twice as hard.

Weight over form. Yeah we all want to look good curling heavy weights and benching small houses but is swinging that barbell up and down really doing you any good other than exposing you to greater chances of injury. Remember correct form targets the muscle better and in the long run you'll be using the heavy weights anyway!

Uneven development. Hey if your gonna do squats even it out with hamstring curls. You are only as strong as your weakest link and uneven growth can cause posture imbalances and chronic injuries in the future.

Gorging. Ok you've just broke your record in the shoulder press so you see no harm in having a quick Mars Bar as a treat, you'll probably burn it off on the walk home anyway. Shoving sugars in your body after or during a workout does little but give you a huge spike in energy that will more than likely be converted into fat that you could really do without. Have nice strawberry flavour protein and carb shake instead.

Not keeping a training diary. This is such a simple and effective way of monitoring your progress, seeing what routines work and what routines don't, aswell as providing valuable motivation. It always amazes me that so many people don't keep one. Do you?

So there we have the avoid at all cost muscle building sins for you to avoid at all cost. I'm sure you can add your own favourites to the list too. Remember you only get out of life what you put in. It's up to you.
