You are probably familiar with a great deal of the advertisments online and on television claiming that they are the newest and most effective way to get ripped sexy abs. How can they all be the best? The fact of the matter is that there is certainly more than one way to gain a six pack. However these misleading advertisments often fail to mention that good ab workouts alone will not get you a 6 pack physique.

This is because the closely gaurded secret that they don't really want to tell you is that really you need to be doing cardio work and following a good diet plan, however that would not help them sell their ab workout product. The ab workout should actually be of very little importance to you.

Why is that? Well, basically we all have a good set of 6 pack muscles already, nice and muscular looking. However we don't see them because they are covered in a layer of fat and tissue. If we removed the fat then you would be able to see that you already have a nice looking six pack, you just hide it well at times. so the key is to reduce bodyfat and doing sit-ups doesn't reduce fat around the waist.

When bodyfat is lowered it may first come off your face or your bum or your thighs before it starts to come off your stomach, this is juist the way the body works. So, you need to keep reducing bodyfat until it starts coming off your waist by creating a calorie deficit i.e. using up more calories than you consume and the best way to do that is cardio workouts combined with a good diet.

What constitutes a good diet for a six pack. Well of course you should eat nutritionally balanced meals that provide sources of carbohydrate, protein and fats. Eating fresh fruit, vegetables is always important and great sources of complex carbs are pasta, rice and bread, and for protein you really can't beat fish which contain essentiall oils also. The meal should be divided into parts of 50% complex carbs, 30% protein and 20% fats.

You also need to consume 5-7 meals per day, this is because eating infrequently slows down your metabolism which is the rate at which you burn energy when you do nothing. it does this because it is trying to save energy for the future because it thinks it is starving! You absolutetly do not want this so instead eat frquently and your body will happily burn off excess energy even whilst your not exercising!

Next you need to find a couple of aerobic activities that you enjoy, such as jogging, walking the dog briskly, swimming, cycling and so on. Try to do these as many times a week as you can for at least 30 minutes this will provide you with a good ab workout. research has shown it generally takes 20 minutes of aerobic activity to mobilise your fat energy beofre you start to consume it, so shooting for 30 minutes or more is good advice.

Finally you can complete a good ab workout with differentl variations of hanging leg raises, regular sit-ups, cable crunches, crunches on the stability ball, double crunches on the floor,  and plank holds will help tone and build the muscle there, but like I said this is only a small part of getting a six pack.

In conclusion then a 6 pack workout that works actually includes: an effective diet, cardio and and a good ab workout. Only these combined elements will help you make the most efficient progress towards a chiselled six pack.
