S is for 'Specific'. You need to know exactly what you want to achieve if you want to build muscle how the professionals do it. If you want to get bigger then by how much? Think about it then choose an exact number: 5lbs, 10lbs? If you want to lift more then exactly how much more do you want to lift? 10kg, 20kg? Decide then strive.

R is for 'Realistic'. Don't set a goal that is out of your reach such as: 'I wanna be Mr Olympia' or I want to squat 200 kg if your current one rep max is only 100kg. That kind of goal is perhaps intially inspiring but when you deep down know you have little chance of getting there any time soon, soon becomes demotivating and frustrating. T is for 'Time-Related'. Set a reasonable schedule to have achieved your goal by. For example if your goal is to gain ten pounds of muscle then 4 weeks would be unreasonable whereas 6 months would give you a fair chance of achieving it.
