Remember that in order to stimulate muscle growth then you need to be lifting a weight that makes you reach muscle failure in the range of 6-10m repetitions. Much higher than this and you will be stimulating the slower twitch fibres that do not increase in size so effectively.

For most people no more than 6 sets in total for your chest if done intensely will be enough and maybe even too much for hard gainers.

How to get a big chest, tip 1: Give your chest muscles time to recover between workouts. Train your chest muscle no more than two or thre times a week. More than this and you risk overtraining them which will lead to burn-out, injury and general lack of progress.

How to get a big chest, tip 2: Keep your protein intake high, at least 1 gram of protein per pound of bodyweight daily and make sure you get a good source of protein just before you sleep or your body will not have enough protein to repair the muscle throughout the night. 

How to get big chest, tip 3: Workout intensely and really focus on what you are doing. Do not let yourself be distracted by people around you, stay focused on what you are doing and give each rep everything you have got, If you do not you risk not stimulating muscle growth through lack of intensity, remember you have to make your muscle do something they have never done before in order to make them grow.

How to get big chest, tip 4: How to get bigger chest: sample workout:

Incline bench-press barbells 3 sets of 8 reps

2 sets of tricep dips


Flat benchpress 3 sets of 8 reps

Incline benchpress with dumb bells 2 sets of 8 reps

When you have built a decent amount of chest muscle mass already, you may then want to go on and include some of the following exercises that are more for sculpting and shaping your chest muscles building muscle mass. They are: on the machines the peck-deck or with free weights dumb bell flyes. These can generate a decent pump and help you to get cut too.

As an aside a great tip for boosting your chest muscle mass is to do drop sets. Often after a period of time doing the bench press trainers get stuck at a certain weight and can’t progress any further. At this point you can do drop sets. This means that you would do your set as normal until you can do no more reps and then you reduce the weight on the bar by about 20% and do more reps, when again you can do no more reps you drop the weight once more and do more reps. If you do this a few times you will get a real burn and you will more than likely be quite sore the next day. Use this technique only occasionally to get you through a sticking point.
